Junior varsity (JV) refers to a sports team, usually in high school or college, whose members are primarily freshmen and sophomores, or players who are not quite ready for the main (varsity) team. It's like a stepping stone. JV provides a place to develop skills and gain experience. Think of it as the training ground before the big leagues. It's less competitive than varsity but crucial for growth, like an understudy in a play. JV is also called the "second team."
