Karl-Marx-Stadt was the name of the city now known as Chemnitz, during the time of East Germany. It's like when your parents try to give you a 'cool' nickname that you don't really like 😂. The name was in honor of Karl Marx, the famous philosopher and economist. This renaming was part of the communist government's effort to promote socialist ideology. After the reunification of Germany, the city voted to revert to its original name, Chemnitz. It's a reminder of Germany's divided past.
