Definition
A lactiferous duct is a channel within the mammary gland that carries milk to the nipple. Think of it as a tiny milk river. These ducts branch throughout the breast tissue, collecting milk produced by the lobules. Before reaching the nipple, they widen into lactiferous sinuses, which store milk. During breastfeeding, the milk is released from these ducts. These ducts develop during puberty and change during pregnancy.🍼
