Definition
A 'lasiocampid moth' is a moth that belongs to the family Lasiocampidae. Often called lappet moths or eggar moths, they are known for their medium to large size. They usually have hairy bodies and wings, giving them a fuzzy appearance. Their caterpillars are also quite hairy, and some have lappets (flaps) on their sides. These moths are found globally, particularly in temperate climates. Some species can be pests, feeding on trees and shrubs.
