Latent heat is the heat absorbed or released during a phase change of a substance (like melting or boiling) at a constant temperature. π§π₯ It's 'hidden' because it doesn't change the temperature. Instead, it breaks or forms intermolecular bonds. Think of ice melting; it absorbs heat (latent heat of fusion) but stays at 0Β°C until all the ice is water. Similarly, when water boils, it absorbs heat (latent heat of vaporization) but remains at 100Β°C until it's all steam. Latent heat explains why it takes so much energy to boil water.
