Definition
A lockstitch is a type of stitch formed by two threads, one passing through the fabric from above and the other from below, interlocking in the middle. It's the most common stitch used in sewing machines. Think of it as a secure knot created within the fabric layers. The stitch looks the same on both sides of the fabric. It's strong, reliable, and suitable for a wide variety of fabrics and sewing projects. Unlike a chain stitch, a lockstitch will not unravel easily if one thread breaks, making it a preferred stitch for clothing and other durable items.
