Definition
A macule is a flat, distinct, discolored area of skin, typically small and circular. It's essentially a spot that differs in color from the surrounding skin. Think of it as a tiny, flat island ποΈ on the skinβs surface. Unlike a raised bump (like a papule), a macule is perfectly level with the skin. Freckles and some birthmarks are examples of macules. It doesn't have any texture; it's all about color.
