A "mezuzah" is a small parchment scroll containing specific verses from the Torah (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21). The scroll is rolled up and placed inside a decorative case. This case is then affixed to the doorframe of a Jewish home as a sign of faith and a reminder of God's commandments. Think of it as a spiritual doorbell. Unlike a simple decoration, the mezuzah serves a religious purpose. It's a constant reminder of God's presence and the importance of following His laws.
