Definition
A "midge" is a general term for any small, two-winged fly. Midges are often found in swarms, especially near water. Some species bite, while others do not 🦟. Biting midges can be a nuisance, leaving itchy welts. Non-biting midges are important food sources for wildlife. They're smaller than mosquitoes and often harder to see. Think of them as the tiny cousins of houseflies.
