Definition
Mohican refers to a Native American tribe originally located in the Hudson River Valley in present-day New York. They are also known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. Their traditional territory extended across parts of New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont. Think of them as the original inhabitants of the forests and river valleys, much like the elves in 'Lord of the Rings.' They faced displacement and cultural disruption due to European colonization. Today, the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans continues to preserve its heritage.
