A monoblast is an immature monocyte; it's a precursor cell that will eventually develop into a mature monocyte. Think of it as a monocyte in training π. Monoblasts are found in the bone marrow, where they undergo several stages of development before being released into the bloodstream as monocytes. They are characterized by a large nucleus and less cytoplasm than mature monocytes. They are not yet capable of performing the functions of mature monocytes. It's a cell with potential.
