Naticidae, commonly known as moon snails, are a family of predatory sea snails. They're found worldwide, typically in sandy or muddy intertidal zones. These snails are known for their smooth, globular shells and their ability to bore holes into the shells of other mollusks to feed on them. Think of them as the tiny drill sergeants of the ocean floor. They use a special organ to secrete acid and enzymes. So, if you find a shell with a perfectly round hole, a naticidae might be the culprit. They are quite fascinating creatures.
