Definition
Nemertea, also known as ribbon worms, are a phylum of mostly marine worms characterized by their long, slender bodies and a unique proboscis, an extendable structure used for capturing prey. Think of them as the spaghetti noodles of the sea, but with a sneaky built-in weapon. π Unlike earthworms, nemerteans possess a complete digestive system with a separate mouth and anus. They are found in a variety of marine habitats, from shallow waters to the deep sea. While not typically parasitic, they are active predators, feeding on small invertebrates. π
