Definition
The occipital vein is a vein located in the back of the head, in the occipital region. Think of it as a drainage route for the scalp and muscles in the back of the neck. It drains blood from the posterior scalp. It connects to other veins in the neck. It's part of the venous drainage system of the head. Like a small river draining a hillside. It helps to maintain proper blood flow and prevent fluid buildup in the area.
