Definition
Ogcocephalidae is the family of batfishes, peculiar-looking marine fishes known for their flattened bodies and unusual appendages. They are bottom-dwelling fishes, often found in deep-sea environments. Batfishes have a distinctive rostrum, a snout-like projection, which in some species is used to lure prey. These fishes move along the seafloor using their modified pectoral and pelvic fins. They're like the quirky, awkward cousins of other fish, but they have their own unique charm. Their body shape is adapted for life on the ocean floor.
