Definition
Opuntia is a large genus of cacti, commonly known as prickly pears. They are easily recognized by their flat, pad-like stems and often have spines and glochids (small, barbed bristles). The fruits are also edible and delicious. Think of them as the classic cacti you'd find in a Western movie. 🌵🤠 They are native to the Americas and thrive in arid environments.
