Definition
The orchard oriole is a smaller oriole species compared to the northern oriole. Male orchard orioles have a distinctive deep reddish-chestnut color, rather than the bright orange of the northern oriole. Females and young birds are yellowish-greenish. They are often found in orchards and open woodlands, as their name suggests. Orchard orioles are known for their melodious songs and their diet, which includes insects and fruits. Think of them as the understated cousin of the more flamboyant northern oriole.
