A material is 'paramagnetic' when it's weakly attracted to a magnetic field. Unlike ferromagnetic materials (like iron, which are strongly attracted), paramagnetic substances only show a slight attraction. The attraction occurs only when the external field is present. Think of it like when you're *sort of* interested in something, but not enough to be super enthusiastic. Itβs not magnetic on its own, but gets a little magnetic when a magnet is nearby.
