Definition
Polyatomic refers to molecules composed of more than two atoms chemically bonded together. Think of it as a molecular party! Water (H₂O), with two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, is a polyatomic molecule. Carbon dioxide (CO₂), with one carbon and two oxygen atoms, is another common example. Polyatomic ions, like sulfate (SO₄²⁻), also exist. These complex structures form the basis of countless chemical compounds and play critical roles in biology and chemistry. They're the social butterflies of the molecule world!
