Propoxyphene was an opioid pain reliever, formerly prescribed to alleviate mild to moderate pain. It worked by reducing the perception of pain in the brain. However, it was found to have serious side effects, including heart rhythm abnormalities. It was often combined with acetaminophen (Tylenol). Due to safety concerns, it has been withdrawn from the market in many countries. Think of it as a painkiller with hidden risks.
