The pulmonary veins are unique blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood from the lungs back to the heart's left atrium. Unlike most veins, which carry deoxygenated blood, pulmonary veins are the exception. There are typically four pulmonary veins: two from each lung. This oxygenated blood is then pumped out to the rest of the body, providing energy to your cells. Think of them as the express delivery π service bringing fresh oxygen straight to the heart.
