A Quonset hut is a lightweight prefabricated structure made of corrugated galvanized steel with a semi-circular shape. It was developed in the United States during World War II. Similar to a Nissen hut, it provided a quick and easy solution for military housing, storage, and other needs. Think of it as a giant metal tube cut in half! Its arched design made it relatively strong and able to withstand harsh weather conditions. After the war, many Quonset huts were sold to the public and repurposed for various uses, including homes, businesses, and storage facilities. They represent a practical and efficient building solution.
