Definition
"Rachitic" describes a condition related to rickets, a disease primarily affecting children caused by a deficiency in vitamin D, calcium, or phosphate. Rachitic bones become soft and weak, leading to skeletal deformities. This condition can result in bowed legs, knock-knees, and other bone problems. Unlike a simple fracture, rachitic changes are due to impaired bone mineralization. Nowadays, rickets and the rachitic condition are rare in developed countries due to vitamin supplementation. Think of it as bones not getting enough essential nutrients to grow strong.
