Definition
Rhizopoda is an outdated term for a group of amoeboid protozoans that move and feed by means of pseudopodia (temporary projections of cytoplasm). They lack a fixed shape and are found in various environments. They engulf food particles with their pseudopods. The term is now largely replaced by more specific classifications. It's important to recognize this historical context when encountering the term. Rhizopoda once encompassed a broad range of organisms exhibiting amoeboid movement.
