Definition
A "ribbed toad" is a term typically used to refer to members of the genus Pleurodeles. These toads are characterized by their prominent ribs, which can protrude through their skin as a defense mechanism. Ribbed toads are native to the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco. They are aquatic or semi-aquatic, spending much of their time in water. Their unique defensive adaptation makes them stand out among amphibians. They're like the porcupines of the toad world, but wetter.
