A rush candle is virtually synonymous with a rushlight. It's a homemade candle crafted from the dried pith of a rush plant, dipped in tallow or other fat. Think of it as the OG sustainable light source. Unlike modern paraffin candles, rush candles were entirely biodegradable. Their light was faint but serviceable. It's like comparing a vinyl record player to a streaming service – both play music, but in vastly different ways.
