Sacculus is simply the Latin term for saccule. It refers to the same small, pouch-like structure in the inner ear. 👂 As a component of the vestibular system, the sacculus (or sacculus) plays a critical role in balance and spatial orientation. Its primary function is to detect vertical movements and linear acceleration. The sacculus contains otoliths, small crystals that respond to gravity and motion. It works in tandem with the utriculus to maintain equilibrium.
