Samuel Houston, known more commonly as Sam Houston, was a pivotal figure in Texan history. He was a soldier, a politician, and a key player in Texasβs fight for independence from Mexico. Think of him as the founding father of Texas. He served as president of the Republic of Texas (twice!) and later as a U.S. Senator and Governor. He led the Texan army to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto, securing their independence. His dedication to Texas shaped the state we know today.
