Definition
A "scavenger" is an animal or sometimes a person that feeds on dead or decaying matter. ðĶ Think of vultures circling over a desert landscape, looking for their next meal. Unlike predators that hunt live prey, scavengers rely on finding what's already dead. It's similar to a cleanup crew, but in nature. Scavengers play an important role in ecosystems by removing rotting carcasses and preventing the spread of disease.
