Sciaridae are a family of fungus gnats, those tiny dark flies you see buzzing around houseplants πͺ΄. They're often mistaken for fruit flies, but they're different! Fungus gnats don't bite; their larvae feed on fungi and decaying organic matter in the soil. They're more of a nuisance than a danger. They can indicate overwatering, which creates a perfect environment for fungi. Think of them as the tiny clean-up crew of your potted plants, though a bit annoying when they get out of hand.
