The 'seaside alder' (*Alnus maritima*) is a rare species of alder tree found in a few isolated locations along the eastern coast of North America and in Oklahoma. It is unique for its tolerance of slightly salty conditions. This is unlike most other alders that prefer freshwater environments. Think of it as the 'beach bum' of the alder family. It has larger leaves and flowers compared to other alders. It is considered endangered or threatened in some areas.
