Definition
Selvage (or selvedge) refers to the finished edge of a piece of fabric that prevents it from unraveling. Itβs the tightly woven edge that runs along the length of the fabric. Think of it as the fabric's built-in hem. 𧡠Selvages are created during the weaving process. They provide a clean, durable edge that doesnβt require additional finishing. Good selvages indicate quality weaving. It's the border that gives fabric integrity.
