Definition
A shaft louse is a type of louse that lives primarily on the shafts of feathers, particularly on birds. They feed on feather fragments, skin debris, and sometimes blood. Infestations can cause feather damage and irritation to the host bird. Think of them as tiny squatters setting up shop in the bird's feather real estate. ðŠ They're the avian world's version of unwelcome tenants. They are annoying, not harmful.
