Definition
The sheatfish, also known as wels catfish, is a large, predatory freshwater fish native to Europe and Asia. Itโs like the monster of the lake, lurking in murky depths. Unlike smaller catfish, the sheatfish can grow to enormous sizes, reaching several meters in length and weighing hundreds of kilograms. These fish are opportunistic feeders, consuming anything they can catch, including fish, crustaceans, and even waterfowl. Theyโre ambush predators, using their barbels to detect prey in the dark. Think of them as the aquatic equivalent of a boa constrictor, but with whiskers.
