A shivaree (also spelled chivaree or charivari) is a noisy mock serenade or parade for newlyweds, typically involving banging pots, pans, and other loud instruments. It's a boisterous and often humorous disruption intended as a playful prank. Think of it as an uninvited, raucous housewarming party. Unlike a formal wedding reception, a shivaree is informal and spontaneous. It's a tradition meant to acknowledge the new couple in a memorable, albeit chaotic, way. The goal is to tease and celebrate them simultaneously.
