Definition
A side-wheeler is a type of steamboat propelled by paddle wheels on either side of the hull. Imagine a giant water mill powering a boat! 🚢 They were popular in the 19th century, especially on rivers and lakes. Unlike propeller-driven boats, side-wheelers used large, visible wheels to move through the water. They were once symbols of luxury and innovation but are now mostly historical relics. Think of them as the steam-powered equivalent of a chariot race, but on water.
