A silicle is a short, broad type of siliqua, a dry fruit characteristic of the mustard family (Brassicaceae). Unlike a siliqua, a silicle is only slightly longer than it is wide; its length and width are roughly equal. Silicles split open to release their seeds. Picture it as a flattened, almost circular version of a pea pod. Consider it a 'squashed' siliqua, retaining similar traits but differing in proportions. Itβs like the mini-me of the siliqua world.
