Definition
A stipule is a small, leaf-like appendage located at the base of a leaf stalk (petiole) in some plants. Think of them as tiny 'helper' leaves that grow near where the main leaf connects to the stem.π± Stipules can vary in size, shape, and function. Some stipules protect the developing leaf bud. Others may produce nectar or act as thorns. Not all plants have stipules, but when present, they can be useful for plant identification. They are like tiny guardians of the leaf.
