Definition
A strangler fig is a type of fig tree that starts its life as an epiphyte, growing on another tree. Over time, it sends roots down to the ground, eventually encircling and 'strangling' the host tree. π³ It's a bit like a slow-motion takeover, a natural example of competition. The strangler fig deprives the host of light and nutrients. Think of it as nature's silent but deadly hug. Eventually, the host tree dies, and the strangler fig stands alone.
