Definition
Streptococcus is a type of bacteria 🦠 that forms chains. Imagine a string of pearls 🦪, but made of tiny spherical bacteria. Some streptococcus species are harmless and live in our bodies without causing problems, while others can cause serious infections. Strep throat, for example, is caused by *Streptococcus pyogenes*. Other species can cause pneumonia, skin infections, and even toxic shock syndrome. So, streptococcus can be a friend or a foe, depending on the species!
