String beans, now often called snap beans, are a type of common bean where the entire pod is eaten. They used to have a tough string along the seam of the pod, hence the name. Modern varieties have been bred to eliminate this string, making them easier to eat. Think of them as the 'original' snap bean. π They are crunchy, mild-flavored, and can be cooked in many ways. They offer a good source of vitamins and fiber.
