Definition
The Taleban (alternate spelling of Taliban) is a Sunni Islamic fundamentalist political and military organization in Afghanistan. They enforce a strict interpretation of Sharia law. Their goal is to establish an Islamic emirate in Afghanistan. Emerging in the 1990s during the Afghan civil war, they quickly gained control of much of the country. Think of them as a group imposing rigid rules based on their beliefs. They resemble a school enforcing a very strict honor code.
