Definition
Taxodium is a genus of coniferous trees, most notably including the bald cypress. These trees are known for their adaptability to wet environments and their distinctive "knees" that grow out of the ground. They are deciduous conifers, meaning they lose their needles in the fall, unlike most evergreens. Think of them as the swamp-dwelling cousins of the sequoias. While not as massive as sequoias, they are still impressive trees with a unique ecological role.
