The toga virilis, also known as the toga pura, was the toga of manhood in ancient Rome. Roman boys would trade their toga praetexta (with a purple border) for the toga virilis around the age of 14-16, marking their transition to adulthood. It was a big deal, like getting your driver's license or voting today. It signified they were now responsible citizens ready to participate fully in Roman life. Think of it as the ancient Roman version of a coming-of-age ceremony. 👨🎓
