Definition
Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that you can see just under the skin. They usually occur in the legs. Imagine a garden hose that's been kinked—the water (blood) can't flow smoothly, causing it to bulge. 🦵🏼 These veins become varicose when the valves inside them don't work properly, allowing blood to pool. Unlike normal veins that are smooth and straight, varicose veins are bumpy and often bluish. They can cause aching pain and discomfort, making it feel like your legs are heavy. Sometimes, they’re simply a cosmetic issue; other times, they need medical attention.
