Definition
A voiced sound is a speech sound produced with vibration of the vocal cords in the larynx (voice box). You can feel the vibration by placing your fingers on your throat while speaking. Many consonants and vowels can be voiced. 'B,' 'd,' 'g,' 'v,' and all vowels are voiced in English. Without vocal cord vibration, the sound is voiceless. Voicing is a primary feature that distinguishes similar sounds.
