Definition
'Warm-blooded' refers to animals that maintain a stable internal body temperature regardless of the surrounding environment. Think of mammals and birds that can regulate their body heat even in cold weather 🐦. This ability is also known as endothermy. Unlike 'cold-blooded' (ectothermic) animals, warm-blooded creatures expend energy to keep their temperature constant. Imagine a dog panting in the summer to cool down or shivering in the winter to generate heat 🐶. It is a defining characteristic of several classes of animals.
