Definition
A waterfall is a place where water flows over a vertical drop in the course of a stream or river. It's a beautiful and powerful natural phenomenon. Think of it as a river taking a dramatic leap. Waterfalls are formed when a river flows over a resistant rock layer that overlays a softer rock layer. Erosion gradually wears away the softer rock, creating a ledge. Eventually, the overhang collapses, forming a waterfall.
