Definition
A 'wood pewee' refers to either of two species of small, drab flycatchers found in North America. The Eastern Wood-Pewee and the Western Wood-Pewee are nearly identical in appearance. Their song is a plaintive 'pee-a-wee' sound, giving them their name. They are commonly found in forests and woodlands. They perch on branches, darting out to catch insects. Think of them as the stealth bombers of the bird world.
