The duodenum is the first section of the small intestine, directly after the stomach. It's like the entryway to the small intestine's nutrient-absorbing wonderland. This is where stomach acid gets neutralized and digestion really kicks off. The duodenum receives bile from the gallbladder and enzymes from the pancreas. Think of it as a chemical mixing zone. It prepares everything for the rest of the small intestine.
